Globe Guides 2-Wine Trails France, Italy & Iberia
In this half hour Pilot Globe Guide, we journey through the classic Old World wine countries of France, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
France is arguably the world leader when it comes to wine, with each region offering a vast array of classy appellations. We travel through the regions, to the small vineyards of Burgundy, the chalky slopes of Champagne, the aristocratic Châteaux of Bordeaux and the sun-drenched terraces of the Rhone, discovering the best wines along the way.
Then to Italy; historic Tuscany stands out in particular as this is where Renaissance wealth nurtured the production of delicious reds such as Chianti and Brunello di Montelcino.
In Spain and Portugal, the fortified wines Port and Sherry take centre stage. We also get a flavour of wine making festivities in the Old World. Celebrations can be exuberant, as illustrated by the by the eccentric Battle of Wine in Spain’s Rioja region.
